John Patmore landing a carp on the Match Canal
Match Canal is an ideal starter lake, giving children plenty of experience of catching small fish. Cub groups and other similar organisations are welcome by prior arrangement. Please contact us
The 23 peg purpose built match canal opened in 2005. This canal is heavily stocked with home-grown carp to 10lb+, bream, skimmers, roach, perch, rudd and tench. We take bookings from clubs and organisations who wish to book their own matches. Results on the match canal regularly give bags exceeding 40lbs and the match record is held by John Patmore with a weight of 200lbs. When not booked for matches individual or group pleasure anglers can fish the canal and enjoy some exciting sport. Favourite baits are maggots, pellets and meat.
The match canal is float only, with no floating baits and no feeder fishing, and can be booked for groups by prior arrangement. Keepnets are provided for Matches only. When fishing the Canal on day tickets keepnets cannot be used
The average depth of the Canal is about 5 feet. It is 20m wide and fished in a staggered / herringbone formation. There is car park immediately adjacent to the Canal. You must check on availability, especially at weekends prior to fishing.
Try fishing close in to the margins with either corn or meat for the Carp or fish with maggots for a mixed bag of fish.
